With so many celebrities having babies these days, it is only natural that fashion designers are coming out with fashionable diaper bags. Designers such as Kate Spade, Burberry, DKNY, and many others have released new diaper bags as of late. These bags are as stylish as they are useful, and they are enough to make a girl want settle down and start a family.

While researching this article, I discovered that these bags come in countless shapes and patterns. They are not only being marketed to new mommies, but to their husbands too! A company called Diaper Dudes has an awesome collection of bags for sale. They are simple messenger bag-type designs, with various pockets for diapers, wipes, and baby bottles. They even come with a padded changing pad. These bags are available in a distinct camouflage pattern.

Timi and Leslie diaper bags have been photographed countless times, as of late. They have almost become as popular as the celebrities that sport them. Celebrities using these fine products include Hillary Swank, Jennifer Garner, and Faith Hill. Timi and Leslie have a number of designs available, ranging from backpack-style to smaller purse-like bags. They also come with matching diaper changing pads, and carrying cases for smaller items.

Isabella Fiore also has some brilliant designs. She has been one of my favorite designers for some time now. She has a diaper bag that would be simply perfect for summer. It has a bubble-like design printed on it, and it is very colorful and fun. It is approximately 16 inches long, 10 inches high and 6 inches deep. I love it because it is large enough to accommodate all of your baby’s necessities, but it is no bigger than the average purse. This bag has FUN written all over it!

Coach is another company that is starting to produce some wonderful products with this demographic in mind. They, however, have taken things a step further. Not only do they design and manufacture some wonderful diaper bags, they are now selling baby clothes and toys to match the diaper bags. What a brilliant and thoughtful innovation! All this talk of babies is starting to make me think about starting a family. Now if only I could meet a decent man……

Fall is on its way and maybe it’s the radical weather or the worries about the economy that helped shape this season collections of the most inspiring character and function we’ve seen for fall in years. One thing is for sure it’s all about shape and color.

From bright red coats at Marc Jacobs to monster green accessories at Prada the designers have shown that black is no longer the end all be all for fall dressing. One of the most influential designers in fashion Nicolas Ghesquiere, showed a mirage of bright color splashed onto flowing dresses and also great multicolored structured jackets.

It was a great departure from his usual ode to Mr. Balenciaga and his history of elegance, Nicolas really gave us his point of view for was dubbed the “Balenciaga gang” by one of his models . It was his shapes that always seems to make the best statement; my favorite was a fitted jacket with black pants and shoes. His reference was a college campus and with that, models came down the runway wearing great jackets in blue and white with tan pants which in retrospect is good look for any season.

Marc Jacobs is always new and fresh but this season he did a collection that had a very different underling message “In a way making fun of fashion” he put it in a style.com interview in this grand space models stood as mannequins before heading down the catwalk. The collection was filled with great shapes from the coats to the sequined jumpsuits Marc made his statement well about fashion and all its aspects. Marc for Louis Vuittion did not disappoint either with probably his one of his best collections for his 10thanniversary at LV.

John Galliano for Dior gave us pure glamour of the 40s with his fall collection. The colors were nothing less than spectacular; shades of pink, green and purple only enhanced the wonderful detail that was inspired from his last Haute Couture show.

The queen of unusual Miuccia Prada once again did it her way. It was loosely inspired by a woman who is an outsider in the 1950s. I guess if I was a woman I would try at least to wear one or her brightly colored coats or strut down the street with one of her furry bags but that’s just because fashion is my obsession.

In reality Prada pushed the envelope for what a fall collection is, sure there was black and grey but who remembered that after you saw her green faded suit? For those who are more traditional and believe black is meant for fall than Yves Saint Laurent is your best bet.

Stefano Pilati says “who wears color especially for fall” and he gave us reason for not doing so. His collection was filled with grey, black and some white but it was his shapes that made it one of the best collections for fall. The tailoring was great, from the suits to the dresses, the clothes gave off this feeling of confidence and sex.

So you might want to think again if you were planning on getting out those black trenches and boots, fall has become the time to grow and the best way to do so just might be with color and new shapes, even in moderation you’ll still look fresh and fashionable.

Casually doing a bit of window shopping a few years back in one of Italy’s ‘oh so fashionable’ little lane ways, I noticed that pointy toe stiletto’s were everywhere. Glancing down at my round toe Mary Jane’s I’d just purchased before leaving Australia, I was feeling both repulsed and anxious. Repulsed because I thought pointy toe stiletto’s were ugly, and anxious because I knew it was only a matter of time before I would be forking out the lire to purchase them. Two weeks later, I had succumbed. The trend had gotten the better of me, despite how ridiculous I looked when the heels got caught in the uneven Italian pavement every time I walked down the street (which was about every three steps).

So what was it that changed my mind? I believe the answer lies in the hands of, well, a handful of people called ‘Trend Analysts’ AKA The Fashion Police. Their job: to serve and protect the commercial interests of fashion companies across the globe. How? By dissecting the public’s psychology of what will be the next trend will be by way of extensive travel and shopping expeditions (those bastards). These ‘trend analysts’ then report back to analysis companies, who then go on to consolidate their findings in industry magazines and websites for the use of fashion companies.

I’d like to say that fashion companies use analysis companies because they’re lazy, but it’s certainly not the case. They’re just scared to make a mistake (can you imagine manufacturing 1000 pairs of high waisted skinny leg jeans only to find that everyone was going for low rise bootleg? Ebay auctioning them is NOT a solution here). There are also unbelievable time constraints between the seasons. So most designers design their range around what they are fed, and if they’re lucky they get to travel around Europe and Japan to buy garments to ‘take inspiration from’. This is why we get a slight variation of the trend theme every season; all our designers are shopping in the same store in London! If you want to see something really interesting, just observe the women with suitcases in major department stores buying size ten (when they are size 12) at the start of every season. Ask them what they do for a living.

Can you see we are at the hands of a conspiracy!? We need to take action. I urge you to burn your pleather Fendi bags! Let’s make up our own trends! I myself am going to knit and extended version of the merkin (If you don’t know what one is, I advise you Google it because I’m certainly not about to explain). Yep, it’s going to be a toasty winter for me rugged up in my black merkin cardigan…

Which brings me back to my original thought at the beginning of this piece (merkins also have the power to bring people back to what they were originally thinking). What was it that made me buy those pointy toe high heels I now so dearly cherish? I believe it comes down to one word: agreement. Agreement by trend analysts, agreement by industry magazines, agreement by designers, agreement in fashion magazines, agreement throughout the stores, and finally, agreement by you. Agreement creates our fashion reality. Not always bad, but within the safety of agreement comes a lack of innovation. And that’s why we need those quirky fashion revolutionaries; so we can steel their ideas, manufacture them times a million, and sell the homogenized version back to you. Back to square one. We again enter into a state of agreement. Weird world we’re living in ain’t it? Now where did I put my knitting needles and my merkin ‘wool’ supply..?
